Ghost Controls access control installation in Miami typically runs $320 – $680 for a complete keypad, receiver, or vehicle-sensor setup, and we stock Ghost Controls-compatible parts on our trucks so most jobs are finished in a single visit. The most common way owners discover a failure: the gate stops responding to the keypad or remote, or the access control unit stops triggering the opener entirely. You’ll usually notice it first thing in the morning when the gate won’t open, or when a delivery driver calls and says the gate is dead from their side.

We’re Warden Gate Repair Miami, an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we work on their equipment weekly and keep their access control components on hand. Cole Rafferty, our owner, has been turning gate problems into solved problems in Miami for years, and he’s particular about one thing: know what’s broken before we touch it. Fix it once.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls access control installation covers a few distinct pieces of hardware, and the part you need depends on which one failed. The main categories:
- Wireless keypads (Ghost Controls AXDP and similar): surface-mounted numeric pads that open the gate with a PIN. These pair to the opener board and fail most often from weather exposure or dead internal batteries that have corroded the contacts.
- Vehicle sensors (the Ghost Controls “exit wand” or loop detector setups): these detect a car approaching from inside the property so the gate opens automatically. In Miami, buried sensor loops fail from lightning strikes and soil shifting after heavy rain.
- External receivers and antenna extenders: these boost range for remotes. If your remote only works when you’re ten feet away, this is usually the culprit.
- Hard-wired push-button stations and intercom tie-ins: used at back-access gates behind Wynwood warehouses or on Coral Gables driveway pedestals.
One compatibility gotcha we see constantly: Ghost Controls has changed wire color coding and connector styles across production runs. A keypad from 2018 may not plug into a 2023 opener board without an adapter harness. We verify the revision before ordering anything. If we can’t confirm compatibility on-site, we don’t guess.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. The keypad is sending a signal, but the opener board isn’t receiving or processing it. This points to a failed relay on the board or a broken signal wire, not the keypad itself.
- The gate opens randomly with no one at the keypad. In Miami, this is frequently a vehicle sensor loop that’s shorting after rain saturated the conduit. Moisture crosses the wires and sends false detection signals to the opener.
- Your remote range has dropped from 80 feet to 8 feet. The external receiver’s antenna connection has corroded. Salt air from Biscayne Bay accelerates this significantly. Owners near the water see this failure in half the time of inland homes.
- The keypad works sometimes, not others. Heat expansion in the afternoon stretches weak solder joints on the keypad circuit board. When the board cools at night, the connection re-touches and it works again. This one drives people crazy because the problem seems to come and go.
- After a storm, the vehicle sensor ignores cars entirely. Lightning struck nearby and induced voltage down the loop wire, killing the detector module. This is the single most common Ghost Controls failure we replace after Miami thunderstorms.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed Ghost Controls access control installation in Miami ranges from $320 to $680. Here’s what drives that spread:
- Keypad replacement: $320 – $450 installed. Includes the unit, weatherproof sealing, programming to your opener, and testing with your existing remotes.
- Vehicle sensor or exit wand replacement: $420 – $580 installed. Higher if the buried loop wire itself is damaged and needs re-running across a driveway.
- External receiver or antenna replacement: $340 – $480 installed. Includes range testing from multiple points on the property.
- Full keypad plus receiver plus vehicle sensor package: $550 – $680 installed. This is common on larger Miami properties where the original system degraded all at once from weather exposure.
Every quote is written and agreed to before work begins. No surprise line items at the end. The labor includes programming, testing, and a written warranty covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we come back and make it right, free.
DIY or Call Us?
Access control components themselves are low-voltage, so you’re not dealing with the same risk as a tension spring or a high-current gate motor. That said, the dangerous part of this job isn’t the keypad. It’s that you’ll be inside the opener housing, where 120V or 240V line voltage terminates, while the gate is in a faulted state. If the gate moves while you’re in there, you’re in a bad spot. We never open an energized opener without locking out power at the breaker and physically securing the gate.
What you can safely check: keypad batteries, clean the keypad face with a dry cloth, and confirm the breaker hasn’t tripped. What you shouldn’t attempt: re-wiring a vehicle sensor loop, replacing an external receiver, or opening the opener control board. If any of this sounds like your situation, call (850) 495-7564. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a service call or something you can handle in five minutes, and estimates are free.

FAQs
A properly installed Ghost Controls keypad lasts 5 to 7 years in Miami, but units within two miles of the coast often fail in 3 to 4 years due to salt-driven corrosion on the circuit board. If your keypad is older than that and misbehaving, replacement usually costs less than repeated repairs.
Call (850) 495-7564 and we’ll help you figure out if yours is worth saving.
Keypads can sometimes be saved with a $60 – $90 internal battery and contact cleaning. Vehicle sensor modules and receivers are rarely worth repairing once the board is damaged; the replacement part costs less than the labor to diagnose and rework the old one. We’ll always quote the repair option first if it’s genuinely viable.
Call (850) 495-7564 for an honest read on your specific unit.
Most single-component Ghost Controls access control replacements take 45 minutes to 2 hours on-site. The bulk of that time is programming the unit to your opener, testing range and response from multiple positions, and sealing the housing properly against Miami rain. We finish most jobs before lunch.

We stock Ghost Controls keypads, receivers, and vehicle sensor kits on our trucks, along with compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing. If your specific revision requires a harness adapter we don’t have that day, we’ll tell you the timeline before any work starts. You won’t pay for a visit that ends with “we’ll order it and come back.”
Call (850) 495-7564 and tell us your model number; we’ll confirm what’s on the truck before we roll.
